About the Artist
Born and raised in Birmingham, Calvin Macon is a self-taught sculptor with a passion for transforming wood and stone into captivating works of art.
After joining the Navy in 1975, Calvin spent over two decades traveling the world, carving wooden abstracts during his time at sea to pass the time.
What began as a creative outlet soon evolved into crafting intricate pieces like coffee coasters, ornate pipe holders, and unique gifts for his fellow sailors.
In 1997, while stationed in Japan, Calvin discovered the art of stone carving, opening up a new world of creative expression.
Now retired, he continues to blend his love for poetry and sculpture, crafting meaningful works that reflect his journey as an artist.
Come and purchase Calvin's art on Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 11 am to 5 pm at the Arts Trussville Gateway Art Festival.
