Dayna Knight is a self-taught artist living in Birmingham, Alabama, with their husband, three dogs, two crested geckos, a cat, and two roommates. Their passion for art has been a lifelong journey, nurtured by a supportive family who encouraged their creativity from childhood drawings and clumsy Play-Doh sculptures to unique copper and found-object creations with their brother. Their father gave them their first digital drawing tablet in high school, igniting a passion that would shape their artistic path.

In 2015, while attending Jefferson State, Dayna discovered pottery and clay animation, sparking a love for sculpting. This passion continued to grow through online classes at Pennsylvania State during the COVID-19 lockdown, where they used polymer clay sculpting as both a form of physical therapy for their hands and a creative outlet for stress relief.

Today, Dayna creates pop and alternative polymer clay sculptures, mixed media art, and digital pieces. Their work is often inspired by the side effects of their disability, the whimsy found in the world around them, and the influences of artists like Junji Ito, Vincent van Gogh, and Yayoi Kusama.

Come and purchase Dayna's art on Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 11 am to 5 pm at the Arts Trussville Gateway Art Festival.
